Information for Sellers

Art Brokerage was designed to make selling and buying fine art safe and easy. We sell original paintings, limited edition prints, sculptures, and jewelry from more than 1000 artists including Andy Warhol, Leroy Neiman, Frederick Hart and Ed Ruscha. International buyers and sellers are welcome to work with us, we ship worldwide on a daily basis.

Listings are FREE! There is a 20% commission on all sales above $5,000 and a 25% commission on all sales below $5,000. No listing below $3,000 will be approved. When listing with Art Brokerage you agree to list EXCLUSIVELY with our site for a period of 90 days, AND you reserve the right to sell your own listed artwork, (privately, not on the internet), using the convenience of our site, during this 90 day period! Of course you pay no commission when you sell your own artwork listed on our site and you may remove your listing at any time without penalty. Buyers pay shipping, sellers pay packing and crating costs.

You may update your listing and choose to do one of the following after it has been listed:

  • reduce the asking price of your listing (you may also reduce before 90 days)
  • mark your listing OBO or MAKE OFFER (seller will consider any resonable offer)
  • choose must sell from the drop down box on your listing
  • after 90 days, you may list your art elsewhere (while maintaining your Art Brokerage listing) with the understanding that we will retain the ability to sell your art when we have a buyer. We ask that you notify us by email when and with whom you are listing after the initial 90 day period.

If you have art valued at more than $100,000 that you would like to sell, but do not want to list it publicly on the internet, please email us to ask about our private viewing area.

*Exclusive listing means not listing your artwork with any other galleries, dealers, or internet sites, including ebay.

The Art Brokerage commission is taken out of the total asking price.
It is NOT added to the net asking price.

EXAMPLE: (20% commission)
If your net price is $10,000
Then your asking price will be $12,500
80% of $12,500 = $10,000 (your original net price)
20% of $12,500 = $2,500 (Art Brokerage 20% commission)

11. I want to list my art with Art Brokerage but my artist is not listed? How do I add an artist?
Art Brokerage currently accepts listings from more than 1000 artists. If your artist is not in our database please email the artist's full name, the title of the piece, your net asking price, a short biography, and a quality photo to thomas@artbrokerage.com. We will consider adding the artist to our database. Please note, Art Brokerage is not in the business of promoting emerging or new artists. We are a secondary market site. Artists without a secondary market presence will not be listed.

12. Why do I see listing under $3,000 on the site if you say you will not approve any listings under $3,000? Recently, Art Brokerage has changed it's minimum value listing policy but we continue to honor our existing clients and give exception to those clients that we have long-term relationships with and we have many such clients. As a company dealing with fine artworks for nearly 25 years we have acquired our own inventory which we also list on our site. Some of these works are valued at under $3,000

In the last year Art Brokerage has handled many transactions over $100,000 and up to $1,000,000. YES! High end artwork is now being sold via the internet. At this level it becomes highly personal. We are available for curating and liquidating personal and corporate collections.

We will do everything for you except determine the value of your art. Art Brokerage will handle the entire transaction and assist you with shipping. We act as the escrow for the art and collect the funds before we have asked you to ship the art. Art Brokerage will provide bank and client references when a sale has been consummated. We do not provide references to people who have not registered their artwork with our website.

Art Brokerage does not have the staff to assist with pricing. Please remember it is not up to us to determine the value of your art. We are not appraisers. It is our goal to sell your art. This policy is in place because if we price the art too high and it does not sell the sellers get upset. If we price it too low and it sells too quickly the seller will think we priced it too low. This creates a conflict of interest for us. For more information please read through our pricing guide.

Art Brokerage will allow you to list your art for free but we ask that you be willing to sell your art at fair market value, and not at retail gallery prices. Realistic pricing is what makes our site the number one fine art classifieds site on the web.

There is a 20% commission on all sales above our minimum of $5,000. Anything priced below $5,000 will be sold with a 25% commission. We do not accept listings with a fair market asking price below $3,000. Art Brokerage has 50 years experience in the art business and 13 years with a web presence.

Any person who knowingly and willfully lists any fraudulent artwork will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
