Provenance / HistoryThe Saturday People, a story illustration published in the October 1966 issue of McCall's magazine, tells the tale of a golden-haired thirteen year old named Leslie who thrives on the excitement of her mid-Manhattan world. Leslie, a keen observer of life, has an active imagination that sometimes enlarges upon reality, adding interest to day to day existence as famous and fantastic figures dance among her private thoughts. Famous individuals move through Rockwell's image from left to right, while the not-so-famous (including the artist himself and his wife Molly in cameo appearance) walk from right to left. Moving from left to right include actor David McCallum, New York City Mayor John Lindsay, soprano Maria Callas, actor Sean Connery, pianist Van Cliburn, drummer Ringo Starr, Prince Philip of England, New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller, comedian Jonathan Winters, composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein, and actor Tallulah Bankhead. Purchased lithograph from The Upstairs Gallery on February 17, 1974 which came with a Certificate of Authenticity stating artists name, title and that it is an artists proof from an edition of 200.
