Provenance / HistoryThis work is one of several growing out of the Octopus Meditations that visually tackles a strange new fact of nature as its subject matter...that particles can be "entangled" over huge distances and that measurements made in one place can have an instantaneous effect in another place. These interactions do not seem to violate the principle of the speed of light....are the interactions happening outside space and time? Einstein called this "spooky". The pictorial structure of the work suggests fixed and flowing points happening at the same time . 

Story / Additional InfoThe artist has collaborated with engineers, biologists and neuroscientists on both the production of art and scientific experiments. The imagery of science influences the art work images.
Science has made profound discoveries dividing wholes into parts. This is reflected in the unity of knowledge being divided into the great branches of learning. However, as we awaken to the harsh realities of the 21st century, crucial limitations to this enterprise have become evident. For understanding the interconnections within complex systems is as critical as comprehending each individual component. Hence, E.O. Wilson’s appeal for consilience - or the forging of connections between isolated fields of knowledge - is increasingly compelling, even if this will take generations to achieve.
