Provenance / HistoryThis painting was done as an origin metaphor using the work of the American poet, Ross Gay. His poetry is often intensely descriptive of nature's interrelated processes which are a source we share. The space in this painting is created by layering, texture variation and scale changes of interlocked fields of activity. The painting has been shown in exhibitions that have featured collaborative work in art and science. It has served as a springboard for additional work in layered processes. My mentor, Grace Hartigan often used poetry as a start point, in particular the works of the Americans Frank O'Hara and Barbara Guest. I carry on her tradition.
Story / Additional InfoAdditionally, this is a post “Octopus Meditations” painting which explores the emergent principles of visual perception and connectivity to memory. The basis of the physical processes comes from an understanding consciousness as fundamental to reality and to the phenomena of non-locality which particles enjoy. Energy fields are seen as consciousness fields (the biochemist Rupert Sheldrake refers to these fields as "morphic resonances") in which information is shared with other sentient receivers. The abstract expressionist ethos is the same idea. Gesture pulverizes the blank canvas by action strokes and emotively driven autonomic responses containing three distinct divisions: sympathetic, parasympathetic and enteric....all of which belong in the physical manifestation of emotional expressiveness.
