Emilio Lobato

Art Brokerage: Emilio Lobato American Artist: b. 1959. Emilio Lobato, an American artist who has lived and worked his entire life in Colorado. In many ways, Lobato is a quintessential Colorado artist. He received his formal training at Colorado College, where he studied with the late Mary Chenoweth.His work traces his artistic development and his influences: world cultures, including elements of his Hispanic heritage, the San Luis Valley landscape, Native textiles, text from old books, Chinese characters, and the Spanish language. His work has been inspired by both his rural upbringing and current urban existence. The combination of growing up on a family farm in Colorado, and secluding himself daily in his studio have helped him realize how his stark surroundings helps him focus his attention on the power of imagination and creation. Emilio Lobato received a BA in Studio Art from Colorado College, Colorado Springs (1982). He was presented with the Fra Angelico Artist of the Year in 2001 by the Dominican Vocation Foundation, Denver, CO. Lobato has had solo exhibitions at the University of Wyoming Art Museum, Laramie, WY; the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center; the Arvada Center for the Performing and Visual Arts, Arvada, CO; and the Nicolaysen Art Museum, Casper, WY as well as galleries including Nuart Gallery, Santa Fe, NM; William Havu Gallery, Denver CO; and Costello Childs Gallery, Phoenix, AZ.
