Art Brokerage: Frederick Hall English Artist: b. 1860-1948. Frederick Hall was an English impressionist painter of landscapes, rustic subjects, and portraits; usually signing his paintings Fred Hall. He was an important member of the Newlyn School in Cornwall. His Newlyn works combine the practice of working outside, en plein air, with an interest in social realism, particularly the depiction of rural life. He is also highly regarded for his series of witty caricatures of fellow Newlyn artists (including Frank Bramley, Stanhope Forbes, and Norman Garstin). As time went on, his style moved away from strict realism and became more overtly impressionistic. His later work exhibits a more mellow air, and suggests the influence of George Clausen and H. H. La Thangue in the tints used. Listings wanted.
