Art Brokerage: Nicholas Marsicano American Artist: b. 1908-1991. Nicholas Marsicano was born on October 1, 1908, in Shenandoah, PA. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with Will Barnet, before winning a Barnes Foundation Scholarship in 1931, and again in 1933, allowing him to travel throughout Europe and North Africa. Marsicano's work is characterized by aggressive brushwork and Fauve-like color. His oeuvre is primarily comprised of the female nude. A critic commented in 1971 that one would find "no languid refinements, no heightening of erotic fantasies one usually associates with the nude" in Marsicano's work. In addition to his artistic pursuits, Marsicano also exhibited an inexhaustible enthusiasm for teaching. His resume includes positions at: Cooper Union, 1948-90; University of Michigan, summer 1950; Yale University, summers 1951-54; Brooklyn Museum School, 1951-58; Pratt Institute, 1957-60; and Cornell University, summer 1959. His students include Tom Wesselman and Eva Hesse. Listings wanted.
