Art Brokerage: Owen John Garde Australian Artist: b. 1919-2008. Owen was born on 5 June 1919 in Adelaide, South Australia. He attended the South Australia School of Fine Arts and Crafts. After some years of teaching art, he studied portraiture in Melbourne under acclaimed artists Sir John Longstaff & Max Meldrum. In 1950 he moved to Perth to paint portraits full-time, and in 1954, established the Western Australian Academy of Fine Arts. Owen carried out overseas commissions and established work in New York from 1962 to 1965. It was during this time that he gave two large paintings of Australian Olympians Herb Elliott & Shirley Strickland to the National Art Museum of Sport. Owen later returned to Australia to teach and paint portraits, his work hangs in the Parliament of Western Australia and several Museums around Australia. Owen died in 2008. Listings wanted.
