Penny Billings
Art Brokerage: Penny Billings American Artist: Award-winning artist Penny Billings works in a style of contemporary realism influenced by the American Tonalist and Hudson River School painters of the late 19th century, and by the preceding Barbizon School artists in Europe. Her luminous oil paintings have attracted clients and collectors throughout the United States and internationally. Billings's oil paintings have been recognized nationally and internationally in juried art competitions and commercial art gallery installations, where they have exhibited in one-artist and group shows, including numerous exhibitions at the National Arts Club and the Salmagundi Club in New York City, and at the Boston International Fine Art Show and the Massachusetts State House in Boston. Her richly conceived landscapes are inspired by the late 19th century American Tonalist painters, notably George Inness, Alexander Wyant, Charles Warren Eaton, and John Francis Murphy, who idealized the civilized landscape, and those of the French Barbizon school such as Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, who immortalized the beauty of the pastoral. Her own atmospheric oil paintings capture the grace, serenity and constantly changing moods of the countryside, and the important intersection between light and shadow. Listings wanted.
