Sarah Morris

Art Brokerage: Sarah Morris British-American Artist: b. 1967. Sarah Morris is a contemporary American painter influenced by Pop, Minimalism, Conceptual Art, and architecture. Her works feature hard-edge geometric abstractions that explore the physicality and psychology of cities. Often working large-scale, Morris captures a distinctive aesthetic, characterized by sharp white outlines filled with muted pastel tones. In tandem with her two-dimensional pieces, Morris is also an accomplished filmmaker, creating politically charged films that when coupled with her paintings offer, in her words, "two sides of the same coin." Born in Sevenoaks, England in 1967, she went on to study at Cambridge and Brown Universities before attending the Whitney Independent Study Program. Her work has gained widespread critical acclaim; she received a Joan Mitchell Foundation grant in 2001 and a fellowship at the American Academy in Berlin in 1999. She has held solo exhibitions at such institutions as the Palais de Tokyo in Paris in 2005, and the Museo d'Arte Moderna di Bologna in 2009. Listings wanted.
