Seen
United StatesArt Brokerage: Seen American Artist: b. 1961. Seen (b. Richard Mirando, 1961, New York) is considered to be a crucial figure in the development of graffiti art; he first started to paint on New York's subways in 1973, and his crew United Artists (or simply UA), quickly gained a reputation for producing full-color "throw-ups" on whole cars. During the very early 1980s, Seen began producing works on canvas, which he exhibited at galleries and sold to museums and private collectors across the world. The artist has also participated in countless group shows, and commissioned works for the MTA, tattoo art, clothing, and sculptures. He continues to exhibit worldwide and collaborate with other graffiti artists including Banksy. The anthropomorphic space station centralized between planetary forms in this composition specifically reflects on his stylistic capability to render popular cultural dynamics exaggerated in cartoon facture, as its contraption-echoing armature composed in part of spray bottles broken and twisted captures the chaotic race-through-space ethos of earlier and present generations. Its chromatically effervescent plane was moreover executed as a follow-up on the artist's spaceship drawings that he focused on in France during 2009. Listings wanted.
