Art Brokerage: Stan 153 American Artist: b. 1958-2019. Stan 153, born Stan Pratt, began writing graffiti in the 1970s in New York, on 153rd Street and 8th Avenue in Harlem. He was one of the original members of the crew 3 Yard Boys (3YB) and a co-founder of Masterworks Productions, a group that focused on portraying street artists as professional working artists. He was also a member of the Nation of Graffiti Artists, a collective that held major exhibits and promoted community activism from 1974-1980. The artist has exhibited in more than forty shows in the United States and Europe, and he has been featured in numerous magazines and literary publications, including Norman Mailer's 1974 The Faith of Graffiti, Craig Castleman's 1984 Getting Up, and Susan Finkler's Fresh. Originally held in the collection of renowned New York queer artist Martin Wong, this work represents a late 1980s era captivated by the mental power of intersecting chromatically exaggerated Social Realism, and the abstract potential of allover urban Futurism. Stan 153 passed away in August 2019, at the age of 60. Listings wanted.
