Art Brokerage: Bill Ward American Artist: b. 1919-1998. Born on March 6, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY, he attended the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, later working as an assistant to the comic book illustrator Jack Binder. Bill Ward was an American illustrator known for his pin-ups, erotic art, and work in the comic book industry. Ward penciled pages for Blackhawk and other mainstream comics throughout the 1940s, and in 1946, created the oft-undressed comic book character Torchy. This would be a precursor to his later "good girl" work, as throughout the 1950s Ward moved towards straightforward pin-ups, eventually drawing covers, spot illustrations, and erotic characters for magazines such as Juggs and Leg Show. The illustrations from the artist's later career are characterized by the use of highlighting and the fluid line work of a veteran comic book artist. Listings wanted.
