Curtis Wilson Cost - United States
Art Brokerage: Curtis Wilson Cost American Artist: b. 1953. Curtis Wilson Cost is Maui's best known and most accomplished representational painter. His crisp landscapes, alive with color and scrupulous detail, are examples of heightened realism at its finest. Curtis was born on March 9, 1953 in Palos Verdes, California. His parents, Harriet and James Peter Cost, went separate ways when he was a year old and he and his sister, Jan, were raised primarily by his mother. The children spent summers immersed in the world of art with James, who was a successful artist with his own gallery in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Harriet was a teacher who noticed Curtis' innate artistic ability at a tender age and encouraged him by making sure he always had an abundance of art supplies. Harriet's gentle nurturing and the many hours spent alongside his father in his studio, spawned what would become a life-long love affair with art. Harriet and the children moved to Oahu, Hawaii in 1968 where Curtis graduated from Kalani High School in 1971. The following year he met Jill Radner and they married and traveled to Carmel where their visit began a career-long artistic relationship with Curtis' father. It was a defining time during which Cost clarified a long held artistic aspiration. Listings wanted.
