Art Brokerage: Danna Ruth Harvey American Artist: She was creating a winter painting when she inadvertently placed a piece of wax paper over a photograph. She noticed that it greatly changed the way she felt about the photograph and, consequently, began to explore wax as a medium. Through experimentation Ms. Harvey has developed a unique approach to painting. She begins by suspending the oil pigment in the wax medium as she paints and then she entombs the completed painting in multiple layers of wax as a finishing process. The artist feels that the more obscure an image becomes, the greater the possibility that the viewers will bring their own experiences to the painting. Looking at a Danna Ruth Harvey print is like looking into ice. Working with her soft, approachable colors, Harvey often incorporates horizontal lines to symbolize the horizon - humankind's imaginary, and somehow reassuring, boundary between earth and sky. The horizon helps usset our bearings. Her work has been described as a calming influence amidst chaotic modern life. Danna Ruth Harvey received the Certificate of Achievement from the Glassell School of Art and graduated Suma Cum Laude with a B.F.A. from the University of Houston in 1995. Since then she has shown her work extensively in both single and group exhibitions.
