Born in Kosovar, Transylvania to Hungarian parents on March 22, 1912, Francois Gall was supported by the government in his early art education through a scholarship awarded to him. He began studying all media at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Rome while working in menial jobs to secure a living after which he came home to teach. He moved to Paris and headed for the l'Ecole Nationale de Beaux-Arts in 1936. Once exposed to the light and color of the Impressionists, he was forever changed as an artist. Six years later, Francois Gall established himself in Paris and became a student of Devambez at the National Academy of Fine Arts. Francois Gall greatly admired the first generation impressionist and adopted their concepts for his own interpretations. Parisian scenes and portrayals of women engaged in typically feminine activities were among his preferred subjects.
