CanadaArt Brokerage: Greg Smith Canadian Artist: Music has taken him around the world as the bass player of The Weakerthans. He also toured North America with artists such as Martin Tielli of The Rheostatics, Christine Fellows, Greg Graffin of Bad Religion, Jim Bryson and The FemBots. He currently records and performs with John K. Samson and Jason Tait of The Weakerthans, Nathan Lawr's collective, Minotaurs, Baa and The Tres Bien Ensemble. In 2004 while on the road with The Weakerthans, he began sketching scenes he found compelling and painted these scenes and others from memory when he returned home from tour. These paintings were part of his first show at The Sixth Gallery in Toronto 2009. He has had three shows of his work and done album cover art for albums by Ford Pier and The Weakerthans. In 2008 he was nominated for a West Coast Music Award for Best Album art for his work on The Weakerthans Live at the Burton Cummings Theatre. His paintings were featured in a December 9 online article in This Magazine entitled Art, Music, Magic, by Sean Flinn. The article includes an interview with Greg Smith in his studio, and comments on his work by fellow artists. Listings wanted.
