Liz Gribin
United KingdomArt Brokerage: Liz Gribin British Artist: b. 1934. Liz Gribin was born in London in 1934. As a young girl her family was vacationing in Switzerland when the Nazis marched into Poland, forcing them to flee to America. After arriving in Manhattan she began her artistic studies at the Museum of Modern Art children's program and the Art Student League. Liz obtained her degree from Boston University as a member of the first class to graduate with a degree in Fine Arts. Gribin was developing as an artist in New York at the same time as many of Europe's most prominent modern artists were fleeing their home countries and relocating in the United States. After World War II ended the art world had abruptly shifted to New York where artists of many different nationalities and styles were suddenly working in the same city. As a student in this rich, artistic environment, Gribin was exposed first hand to significant artworks in a variety of avant-garde styles, which is apparent in the maturity of her work. Gribin's work has been exhibited internationally and shown at prestigious locations such as The National Academy of Design, the Parsons School, Pace University, The National Arts Club, The Nassau County Museum of Art, The Heckscher Museum, Guild Hall Museum and Sarah Lawrence College among many others. The U.S. Library of Congress declared Gribin as a living legend, and she has been honored with the prestigious Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Advancing the Arts. Gribin's career as an artist has thrived for almost six decades. Her unique painting style melds the figure with abstract elements in a style that has been described as "classical modernism."
