Art Brokerage: Margery Ammon American Artist: Born in California, Margery was raised in a family of artists. Her mother was a teacher and actress, while her father was director of a large community theater where he directed plays as well as designed sets and costumes. Some of her earliest memories are of leafing through her mother's collection of large and heavy art books. Margery spent much of her youth studying classical ballet, acting in children's theater and helping with every aspect of the community theater process including makeup and set construction. Thus from her family she learned a love of the art. Margery showed a talent for drawing and painting at a young age and continued to study art and art history through college years. She spent her third and fifth years of University at Aix-en-Provence studying French Literature and absorbing the vistas of Paul Cezanne's mountain, the Mont St. Victoria. Summers following these two academic years were spent visiting the great cities and museums of Europe. The passion of art that began in her childhood blossomed. Although her fascination with art began early, she didn't begin painting in oils until 1991 when she discovered the gifted artist and teacher Peggy Doughty. She also studied the discipline of drawing with Bill Yokoyama for several years. Spending five years as an amateur, she became serious about painting in 1996. When she became a full-time painter, it was at this time that she began showing her paintings professionally in Carmel. Since then her paintings can be found in collections in the United States, Canada, and Europe. She has shown her work in Carmel, San Francisco, Yountville, St. Helena, and in Danville, California. She was honored to be included in the Napa Valley Museum's Plein Aire Biennial in 2003, and received First Place for the People's Choice Award. She was juried into the National Association of Woman Artists in New York in 2003. Recently she was named a finest in the American Artists Magazine's cover competition, the winner of which will be announced in March 2007. A prolific painter, the artist enjoys painting series that range in scope from a minimum of six paintings to series that number into the thirties. These series range in subject matter from floral and still lifes to landscape paintings of San Francisco, Southern France and the Napa Valley. Listings wanted.
