United StatesArt Brokerage: Mark Abildgaard American Glass Artist: Mark received a B.A. degree in Art from San Francisco State University in 1979 and a M.F.A. degree from the University of Hawaii in 1984. After graduating from the University of Hawaii he worked in Japan at the Tokyo Glass Art Institute for 9 months as a visiting artist. This was where he was introduced to the technique of kiln casting glass using plaster based molds. After he returned to the United States he was awarded a five month residency at the Creative Glass Center of America in Millville New Jersey in 1985. His residency at the CGCA became a turning point in his career when he began a series of sand cast totems and boats. Since 1986 he has worked in his Northern California studio creating kiln cast glass sculptures. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY, the Richmond Museum of Art In Richmond, VA, the Crocker Museum of Art in Sacramento, CA, The Oakland Museum in Oakland, CA, The Triton Museum in Santa Clara, CA and the Fresno Museum of Art in Fresno, CA as well as numerous private collections. Recently he has started working on a new series of cast glass sculptures which are made using lost wax casting techniques. In this series he has been able to create pieces that incorporate layers of complex imagery and texture that he had not been able to achieve before. This new technique has also inspired him to look for opportunities to teach workshops to people who are interested in learning about glass casting. Listings wanted.
