Matthew Peck - United States
Art Brokerage: Matthew Peck American Artist: Matthew's dynamic style and technique came about while he was evacuated for Hurricane Katrina and her aftermath. While staying with his father with no paints available, Matthew took to finger painting on the screen of the family's computer. When he arrived back in New Orleans, he took to creating works whose roots came from this very method.
When you visit a city you see both sides - the wonders and the warts. Matthew's paintings leave you with the wonder and mystique of New Orleans. The moonlight dancing over the river, the wrought iron balconies lit only by the street lamps that have been sitting in the same spot for as long as any local can recall. Matthew paints a New Orleans that comes to life with the light and colors of the old street painters. His skies cascade delicately behind live oaks spanning St Charles Avenue and the streetcar line, while faceless couples walk arm in arm through the historic streets of the French Quarter. His brush strokes seem almost accidental, but create a deliberate scene, meant to evoke majesty and memory. Celebrated as one of New Orleans risen stars in the art world, Peck continues to bring a New Orleans to visitors in a way that makes locals stand up and notice the things they see every day as if they were seeing it for the first time. Hitting the art scene at 18 years old selling his drawings, Matthew Peck has become an innovator in depicting New Orleans for the eyes of the world. Paintings wanted.
