Mira Lehr

Art Brokerage: Mira Lehr American Artist: b. 1934-2023.Mira Lehr was an American multidisciplinary artist. Her work encompassed painting, design, sculpture, and video installation. Using unconventional materials such as fire, Japanese paper, and gunpowder, eco-feminist Mira Lehr creates nature-based works that blend muted color combinations with bold expressions of gestural abstraction. Works such as A Mystic Silence that can not Engage (2020) depict abstract floral forms, striking a balance between definition and blurriness as they display her reverence for protecting nature. The subject of the documentary Dreamscapes, she earned a BA in Art History from Vassar College under the mentorship of feminist art historian Linda Nochlin; she later studied at the Boston Museum School alongside Robert Motherwell, James Billmyer, and Nieves Marshakek Billmyer. Lehr is the co-founder of Continuum Gallery, one of the earliest co-ops for women artists and has contributed to the flourishing art scene in Miami. Her paintings, sculptures, and installations are in numerous museum collections including the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Orlando Museum of Art, and the Pérez Art Museum Miami. All works wanted.
