Art Brokerage: Olga Albizu Puerto Rican Artist: b. 1924-2005. She is recognized as one of the great female Abstract Expressionists. Olga Albizu provides a uniquely lyrical contribution to Abstract Expressionism with works that she says she painted purely for aesthetic pleasure. After training under Esteban Vicente in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Albizu later continued her studies under Hans Hoffman in New York. With its vibrant palette applied in exuberant blocks of color, Radiante (1967) exemplifies her joyous approach to creation which was in marked contrast to the politically tinged Social Realism adopted by most Puerto Rican artists of the era. Albizu is best known for the paintings which graced the album covers for Stan Getz, João Gilberto, and other Bossa Nova artists under Verve Records and RCA Victor. Alla Africa (1963), a typically vivacious composition in which slashes of black, yellow, and orange dance across the canvas, featured on the cover of the classic Getz/Gilberto album (1964) Listings wanted.
