Osprey Orielle Lake
United StatesArt Brokerage: Osprey Orielle Lake American Artist: Osprey Orielle Lake is an artist, activist and advocate of social and environmental justice. She is the founder and president of the Women's Earth and Climate Caucus, co-chair of the International Advocacy for Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature, and co-founder of the Women's Earth and Climate Action Network—a large network of women that work internationally on climate change issues based on four founding pillars: rights of women, rights of Indigenous Peoples, rights of nature, and rights of future generations. According to Lake, these are all the voices that have been silenced and that now need to be heard during the transition to a new cultural paradigm. Lake has travelled to five continents studying ancient and modern cultures and is the artist behind the International Cheemah Monument Project—creating 18-foot bronze sculptures for locations around the world. Her themes concern new cultural narratives and the way public imagery and stories either enhance or distance our relationship with the earth. Lake's larger than life bronze sculptures are nature-themed and informed by the tradition of female sculptural images. She describes art as "a universal language" and that the intention behind her art is "to write an epic love poem to life in the form of sculpted bronze and a deep desire to contribute to making a better world for current and future generations." She says it is difficult to care for something we have no relationship with, so fostering a connection to each other and the natural world is important to caring. Listings wanted.
