Art Brokerage: Peter Kola Finnish Artist: Peter Kola was taught perspective from a single vanishing point, but was impressed with the way multiple vantage points prevailed in medieval landscape painting. An example is the three wise men waiting to see the infant Christ. The viewer sees inside the nativity scene while at the same time it is possible to see outside and note the time of day, year, overall setting and who is coming. It is very informative. He applies multiple vantage points in nearly all of his landscape paintings. He approaches landscape as portrayal and to accentuate its character or sense of place he expounds, enhances, enlarges, expands or reduces and integrates information that goes beyond conventional photo perspectives. His respect for the indigenous and the intrinsic originality of what he paints shapes his intention to make each brush stroke unique. He says, in the same vein as "no two snowflakes being the same", in my paintings, no two bushes, tree branches, rocks, clouds, flowers… are exactly the same. I aspire for the total effect to be unpretentious and have direct simplicity". Kola has an extensive history of one person and group shows throughout the United States.
