Robert Martin Harvey - United States

Art Brokerage: Robert Martin Harvey American Artist: b 1924-2004. Born 16 September 1924 in Lexington, North Carolina, Robert grew up during the Depression. His father died when he was 5 years old. His mother went to work, and he was raised by a grandmother who lived with them. She died when I was eight and she was 88. Robert always loved old photos, even then, and later based the work for which he became well-known for. Robert went to Ringling Art School in Sarasota, Florida for two years and then to New York City where he worked in the famous House of Heyduryk, first in the workshops, and then in the show room, meeting many famous artists, architects, composers, writers from Europe who had fled the Nazis. After a few years in New York, he traveled several times back and forth from Taos and New York, staying months or years in each place. During this time Robert got married and had a son. In 1953, Robert went to live in San Francisco where he stayed for many years, showing at Gump's and at the Charles Campbell Gallery. During this time, he started "Family Album" the series that led to my winning the Ford Foundation Purchase Award and Honorable Mention at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington D.C. Listings wanted.
