Rodrigo de la Sierra
MexicoArt Brokerage: Rodrigo de la Sierra Mexican Artist: b. 1971. Rodrigo de la Sierra, was born 1971 in Mexico City. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture at the Valle de Mexico University in 1995, becoming a practicing architect, specializing in space design and hydraulic engineering. He later took a Creativity Course given by the Valle de Mexico University, where he participated in a Workshop on Materials and Patinas; and a Workshop on Sculpture at the Pippal Art and Sculpture Center. He took courses on modeling, wood carving, molds and casting, and figurative sculpture at the Iberoamericana University. Later on, he took private lessons with Sculptors Luis Rey Luna and Gustavo Salmones. Since 2008 to date he has developed a very interesting carrer as a sculptor which has lead him to show his work in some of the most important cities in the world and several international contemporary art fairs. De la Sierra refers to Timo as everybody's man, somewhat of an alter ego. With a closer study of this character one sees a seemingly comic veneer interpreting some real serious stuff. While still a full time architect, De la Sierra gives birth to Timo towards the end of 2006, with a small wooden sculpture of Timo leaning on the world: "Reaching my Universe", but this little man really arrives on the art scene during the beginning of the global economic crisis, the banking crisis and the closing of a major investment bank.
