Art Brokerage: Steve Criqui American Artist: b. 1964. Steven Criqui was born in 1964 in Olean, New York. Cirqui has a BA in Art History with Emphasis in Criticism and a BA in Studio Arts with Emphasis in Painting from the University of Californis, San Diego Cum Laude. Based on photographs of vernacular structures in Los Angeles, the computer-manipulated images are slightly abstracted and highly saturated with artificial hues. Layered over the image are simple geometric forms of flat colors. The effect is a painterly intervention of architecture. Like Gordon Matta-Clark's cutting pieces, Criqui's paintings demonstrate the artist's reworking of three-dimensional form. The fields of flat colors simultaneously act as passages of void and as stimulators of flatness, emphasizing the two-dimensionality of facades and surfaces. Listings wanted.
