Vito Acconci - United States
Art Brokerage: Vito Acconci American Artist b. 1940-2017: After studying at Holy Cross College, Worcester, MA, [B.A., 1962] and at the University of Iowa [M.F.A., 1964], Vito Acconci began writing fiction and poetry, treating the page as a self-enclosed space for writer and reader to travel through. In the late 60's and early 70's, Acconci started using performance, film and video as instruments of self-analysis and for the exploration of person-to-person relationships. In the mid-70's, he designed audio and video installations that turned exhibition spaces into community meeting-places. The main focus of Acconci's work in the early 80's was the exploration of the concept of participatory sculpture, the construction of performative spaces for viewers whose activity resulted in the construction and deconstruction of house-like structures. During the mid-80's, Acconci turned to projects in the field of architecture, resp. landscape-architecture, and furniture design. In the late 80's, he founded the Acconci Studio, a group of architects designing projects for public places. Listings wanted.
