Provenance / HistoryThis W. A. Slaughter bluebonnet painting was painted by the Rev. Slaughter when he was a full time minister (ca. 1950). Later he took a sabbatical to decider whether to be a preacher or an artist. He decided to be an artist, and went on to paint large, very expensive bluebonnets shown only in selected galleries: One in San Antonio, one in Salado and one somewhere in California.

Art Brokerage: William A. or W.A. Slaughter American Artist: b. 1923-2000. A minister and uniquely gifted artist, William A. Slaughter was a well-known 20th century landscape painter. He was born in Texas in 1923 and became a pastor following his service in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. His travels took him to Mexico, where he unearthed a passion and ability for painting. After moving to Dallas, he began successfully selling William A. Slaughter landscape paintings to members of his congregation, ultimately leading him to leave the ministry and become a full-time painter. Artist William A. Slaughter won awards for his landscape art and still life paintings from the Artists and Craftsmen's Association of Dallas in the late 1960s and early 1970s. While most of his work featured Texas landscapes, he also painted wild life and ethnic groups, among several other subjects. Listings wanted.
