Wilson Silsby
United StatesArt Brokerage: Wilson Eugene Silsby American Artist: b. 1883-1952. Wilson Eugene Silsby was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 7, 1883. He attended high school in Chicago and studied with private tutors in France and England. His art studies were with William M. Chase and Abbott Thayer. He arrived in Los Angeles in 1913 to work as an art director with Universal Pictures and later worked with several other movie studios. Silsby began etching in the 1920s and in the 1940s authored two books: Etching Methods and Materials and Dry-Points of Wilson Silsby. He died in Los Angeles on January 17, 1952. Exhibited: Ebell Salon (Los Angeles), 1934; Paris Salons; Golden Gate International Exposition, 1939. Works held: Art Institute of Chicago; Metropolitan Museum; Library of Congress; Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts; Crocker Museum (Sacramento); Museum of New Mexico; Seattle Museum; Denver Museum; Toledo Museum; New York Public Library; Pennsylvania Museum; Orange County (CA) Museum; San Francisco Museum of Art; De Young Museum; Oakland Museum; British Museum; Paris Museum of Modern Art; Uffizi Galleries (Florence); National Museum of Mexico; Cleveland Museum.
