Story / Additional InfoFrank Howell worked in water based acrylics, graphite and pastels to achieve his flowing surfaces in the painting, “Prairie Robe”. He mixed pastels with his acrylic washes to layer his applications. Known for his feathers; the detail was done with brushes with as few as four or five sable hairs to create the look he wanted. Graphite pencils were sharpened to make the fine lines shown over the washes. It was purchased right off his easel. The painting received museum quality framing initially and was reframed recently to update the quality of the Plexiglas used to protect the painting. It has had limited viewing and was stored in an archival bag for protection.
