Gabriel Godard

Born in 1933 in Delouze-Rosières, France, he is considered a second-generation School of Paris artist. Godard began painting around 1950, turning decisively to abstraction in 1986. Country landscapes, the seaside, washerwomen, and studio scenes are frequent motifs in his work. In 2012, he returned to figuration with a suite of four large paintings commemorating the 1944 massacre in Oradour-sur-Glane. Godard's works have been exhibited and collected internationally. In 2003, a retrospective was held at the L'Orangerie du Sénat. His work is held in the collection of the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris. Listings wanted.
