Story / Additional Info"There is a hike in Zion Park called Angels Landing. It is a dangerous hike because of the sheer drops of 800 feet and the narrow trail. The hike goes up to the top of a free standing sandstone monument. It is the tallest free standing monument in the United States. I climbed this monument and felt compelled to paint it. Its dramatic angles and lighting are amazing as one side darkens and the other is lit up in the evening sun, dividing the valley into shadow and sunlight." -Artist, Joel Mara

Joel Mara - Canada
Art Brokerage: Joel Mara Canadian Artist: b. 1973. Joel Mara was born In 1973 in Kelowna, Canada. His youth was spent on Vancouver Island on the rocky beaches along the coastline. In this environment he developed an appreciation for nature that would later develop into an artistic pursuit. He graduated with a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration from Capillano College, but the skills he valued and continues to use are those of the brush, oil paints, composition, and colour mixing. In 2003 he became interested in the landscapes of the West Coast. Lakes, rivers, mountains streaked with snow and tall pines are his favourite subject matter. Some of the first places he chose for painting were Broken Island Group on the West Coast, Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast. Later he began to take hikes up into the further reaches of mountain valleys to find lakes surrounded by towering mountains. These natural scenes have a beauty that moved him to paint. Color is a key to Joel's style. Mixing colors takes him a long time as he searches for new yellows, warm greys, electric blues and dark greens. His style continues to evolve and improve as his artistic journey continues. Original paintings wanted.
