Story / Additional InfoThe fiberglass whale Nelson used for his canvas was one of 30 whale blanks created for a benefit fundraiser called Whale Mania Maui. Nelson was one of 30 Maui artists to donate his time and effort painting a whale, and all 30 were displayed around the island in the early months of 2002 and auctioned off on March 15 at the Maui Tropical Plantation in Waikapu, with 50 percent of the proceeds going to charitable organizations chosen by the buyers.
