Art Brokerage: Sierk Schroder Dutch Artist b. 1903-2002. During his long artistic existence Sierk Schröder brought a large and multifaceted oeuvre. Without a doubt he was the most important and most requested portrait painter of the twentieth century. Commissioned he painted the portraits of many prominent figures from the different social sectors of Dutch society and beyond. He also painted many family portraits, including child and baby portraits. No less impressive is his own work. For Sierk Schröder there was a constant tension between accepting portrait commissions, which he was overwhelmed, and making free work. Find a balance between them, was often oppressive. In the free work of Sierk Schröder is the human figure. Furthermore emerged naked and nature studies, landscapes, portraits and self-portraits free. Besides oil paintings, he made watercolors, pastels, including the masterful pastels on raw linen from his later years, and charcoal drawings. Wars against all currents, which mainly after the Second World War did, Sierk Schröder remained faithful to the tradition. Endlessly, in its continued commitment to the highest quality and shifting and combining traditional boundaries to their own time, he continued to make drawings, studies and sketches. These exercises, the red thread through his artistic existence, enabled him to an impressive and very own oeuvre bring. Increasingly called Sierk Schröder as the painter, draftsman, who formed a bridge between tradition and contemporary revaluation of figurative painting, including portraiture. This partly explains the large and ever-growing interest in his work.
