United StatesArt Brokerage: Charles Showalter American Artist: 1917-2005. Charles Showalter was born in Wasbash, In 1917. Growing up, he was fascinated by the Coca-Cola posters he saw in local stores, and determined that he was wanted to be one of the lucky ones who created such images especially the ones with pretty girls. His employment with Sundbloom occurred because of Showalter's acquaintance with New York artist Donald Teague, who was related to Harry Timmins. This relationship help Showalter get enrolment at American Academy of Art. He spent two years studying there amd then worked at Art Directors Service as a black and white artist. Once he returned from the war, he became working with Howard Terpning, Dick Thompson, Morgan Kane, Pearl Frush, Walter Parke, Don Buhrman and Chuck Miller. They had a variety of clients in the 1940s and 1950s, and Showalter also had advertising agencies that he did work for. Those companies include Zenith Appliances, Kellogg's, American Oil and Commerical Litho. With the advent of television, much media money was diverted from hard copy advertisements to the new medium, which offered sound and motion. Showalter and his colleagues went their separate ways, and he was hired as a sales rep. He often used his family members as models and his clients included McDonald's, Wilson Sporting Goods, Holsum Bread, United Airlines, Sears, Sealy Mattresses and the U.S. Military. in 1983, he decided to retire to Arizona and pursue western art. Although he filled illustration commissions, he never pursued western art and took up golf instead. Listings wanted.
