Story / Additional Info“More beautifully in a sense, the clear acrylic figures emerge and disappear, literally creating a spiritual relationship between light and form, and a sense of mystery around being and non-being.” - Frederick HartHart’s work represents a bridge between the ancient and the new, his cultivation of his passion for the classical art of stone sculpture into the innovative mastery of a new material. His Illuminata series is fitting both for its reference to light and the spiritual, embodying Hart’s desire to “delve into the nature of being and non-being.” The first of the series captures the dainty bust of a woman with slender neck and floating hair inside a jagged and crystalline form, as if a beautiful water nymph is gazing out from a crisp, clear rippling pond. The second of the series duplicates the scene of two girls on the verge of womanhood, the one sister gently touching the other’s arm as they both gaze in the direction of two identical figures of themselves. The seen and unseen collide in this light-refracting piece as the girls seem to look upon their dream selves, future selves, or even younger selves. From different angles, the pair can appear singular, double, or in multiple as each new perspective reveals a new emotion. Illuminata III features a couple in a romantic embrace.

Frederick Hart - United States
Art Brokerage: Frederick Hart American Sculptor: b. 1943-1999. Artist and sculptor and stone cutter in the classical style, Frederick Hart was an apprentice at the National Cathedral in Washington DC and learned there about sculpting and stone cutting. Hart's big break came when he won a competition to design the facade of the National Cathedral, which incorporated his thirteen year masterpiece of the Creation, a 21 X 15 foot bas relief sculpture. His work was influenced by the teachings of Teilhard de Chardin and his book Divine Milieu. Hart created the figures in Ex Nihilo in a constant state of awakening and becoming. Hart also created "Three Soldiers" Vietnam Memorial, a figurative bronze to contrast with the abstraction of Maya Lin's work. The memorial is the most visited monument in Washington DC. Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in South Carolina. As a proponent of realism, he was made an honorary member of The American Society of Classical Realism Guild of Artists. Sculpting with light Hart went on to create a collection of works in cast acrylic which absorbed and soften light. These works often had ethereal inner figures and a prismatic shape to illuminate the subject.
