Henry Miller - United States
Art Brokerage: Henry Miller American Author and Artist: b. 1891-1980. Artist and writer Henry Miller grew up in New York, but spent many years in Europe, where his autobiographical and sexually explicit novels Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn were published in the 1930s. They were banned in the U.K. and the U.S. While in Paris he began a famous affair with writer Anais Nin, who documented their exploits in her diaries. Between the 1940s and 1960s Miller settled in Big Sur, California, exhibited water colors and wrote, most notably publishing the trilogy known as The Rosy Crucifixion (the novels Sexus, Plexus and Nexus). His early novels were finally published in the U.K. and the U.S. in the 1960s, and Miller became a pop culture icon, All of the Henry Miller prints fall into one of three catagories: Original prints, Kubo collection or Centennial collection, There is some confusion on the Centennial collection as they were done after Henry Miller died. Before Miller died he signed and numbered every sheet of Arches paper used for the Centennial Collection. In the mid 1990's Henry"s son Tony and Coast Publishing produced nine serigraphs and sixteen giclees prints called the Centennial Collection. These prints are the last to bear the original signature of Henry Miller. The Arches paper and Henry Miller"s original signature were authenticated by Benjamin Horowitz, chairman of the California Society of Appraisers. There are estate signed Miller prints on the market. The estate signed prints are very obvious. Miller prints from the estate prints are not as brightly colored. If you have an original painting for sale...we can assist with selling and authentication.
