ItalyArt Brokerage: Mario Ballocco Italian Artist: b. 1913-2008. Mario Ballocco was an Italian artist. After studying with Aldo Carpi at the Brera Academy, in 1947 Ballocco was in Argentina, in contact with Lucio Fontana. Founder in 1950 in Milan of the Origine Group (which also included Alberto Burri, Giuseppe Capogrossi and Ettore Colla), he created and directed the magazines AZ and Colore. Aesthetics and Logic. He was an abstract painter and made an important contribution to the diffusion of design and to the investigations of color and visual perception. In him the demands of aesthetics and science, communication and teaching, theory and technique met. Ballocco curated exhibitions of design and industrial aesthetics in Milan and an exhibition on the history of photography (respectively in 1952 and 1953 at the Fair). In 1958 the 1st color exhibition was held at the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology. Ballocco is also the inventor of chromatology, an interdisciplinary method for the solution of "visual problems of collective interest": from the color of ambulances to that of notebooks for school pupils. His goal was to defeat the monotony "that makes us born with white, live with gray and die with black". At the beginning of the seventies Ballocco introduced chromatology as a subject of study at the Brera Academy, and subsequently also held courses at the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo and at the Politecnico di Milano.
