Art Brokerage: Peter Fillerup American Artist: Peter M. Fillerup grew up in Cody, Wyoming, spending summers on his family ranch half way between Cody and Yellowstone Park. Here, Fillerup's imagination was free to roam and encouraged by his painter father, Mel Fillerup. When his father brought him a brick of sculpting clay he'd picked up in his travels, it was the beginning of a lifelong passion for the young boy. Growing up in the heart of the west, Fillerup's interest in the rough and tumble life on the frontier was evident in the subjects he chose to portray. A love of history and heritage were also common themes in his work. Fillerup studied at Brigham Young University on an Art Scholarship and later apprenticed with Dr. Avard T. Fairbanks, one of America's foremost sculptors. During Fillerups 40 year sculpting career, he showed a remarkable diversity of subject, media and interpretation. He sculpted over 30 heroic monuments throughout the United States. Halfway through his career, he began designing and sculpting chandeliers, incorporating bronze, stained glass and natural elements such as beaver chew branches and rawhide. For two decades Fillerup simultaneously ran his fine art business alongside his architectural design company often supplying both lighting and art for one of a kind homes and businesses. Fillerup received numerous art and architectural awards for his work and has also has been featured in Architectural Digest, Cowboys and Indians, Luxury Living, and Art and Antiques. In 2015 he was honored for his artistic contributions to the state of Utah by Governor Gary Herbert. His most iconic statues include "Steamboat-Fanning the Twister" for the University of Wyoming in Laramie, "Hard and Fast All the Way-Pony Express" Sydney, Nebraska, and a series of "Pioneer Garden" figures for Brigham Young Park in Salt Lake City, Utah.
