"Magnolia Flower 1994 28x32" by Michael Gerry - We have buyers waiting
Art Brokerage: Michael Gerry's work consists of oversized, almost photorealistic representations of a wide variety of floral images, taking as its subject matter different blossoms from all over America. Whereas photorealism concerns itself with the raw, immediate depiction of a single moment in time, Gerry's flowers seem to suggest the timeless nature of the blossom, pointing instead toward the abstract and ideal. Gerry himself describes his work: "I paint photorealistic flowers anywhere from 20 to 60 times life size. At this scale a subtle transformation occurs. Not only is the illusion of reality present, but the blossoms take on a different reality. They are out of context, so large they are nearly abstract. In fact, they are no longer really just flowers, but an interesting combination of color and form. The revelation of this true reality of flowers, and in fact of all things, gives the viewer a new appreciation of the objects themselves as well as of the paintings. "Michael Gerry died July 2008.
