Story / Additional InfoThe apple represents ecstasy. It is commonly used as a symbol of love, marriage, spring, youth, fertility, longevity, and immortality. According to a Greek myth, Hercules stole the golden apple of immortality from Gesperides. In Christian tradition, the apple is related to desire - the serpent invited Eve to take a bite of the apple taken from the Tree of Life. In China, the apple is a symbol of peace, and its flowers are a symbol of beauty. The apple is a symbol of a world megacity, New York. Yet the artist is more interested in the metamorphosis and lifecycle of a butterfly than the symbolic meaning of an apple. The known three stage development of a butterfly is associated with the spiritual development of the artist himself. A very important phase is the pupa, which invisibly exist in the picture.
