Eric Fischl - United States
Art Brokerage: Eric Fischl American Artist: b. 1948. Eric Fischl (born March 9, 1948) is an American painter, sculptor and printmaker. Eric Fischl's art is grounded in his keen understanding of the historical language and the craft of painting. For him, tradition serves as an infrastructure for innovation: he uses age-old academic preparatory practices side by side with digital photography and Photoshop. Schooled as an abstract painter and self-taught as a representational artist, Fischl mines historical painting and photography for source material. His approach to the human figure is rooted in esteemed figurative traditions, yet given a distinctly radical 21st-century twist of content. In 2002, Fischl collaborated with the Museum Haus Esters in Krefeld, Germany. Haus Esters is a 1928 home, designed by Mies van der Rohe in 1928 to be a private home. It now houses changing exhibitions. Fischl refurnished it as a home (though not particularly in Bauhaus style, and hired models who, for several days, pretended to be a couple who lived there. He took 2,000 photographs, which he reworked digitally and used as the basis for a series of paintings. Listings wanted.
